What Readers Are Saying…

“An overlooked key insight into growing a relationship”

Save Your Sanity is a very interesting and thought-provoking read. Not only does the book emphasize the role that parents play in their child's behaviour, it also allows the reader to reflect on their own childhood and view of how they were parented. I feel, the honest introduction put forward by the author helps the reader to lower their barriers, recognize where they may be going wrong and supports them through that vulnerability by creating a safe space to explore their own childhood history. As a teacher, I find it is quite common for parents to seek advice with challenging behaviour and I will definitely be recommending this book as a valuable resource in improving their parent-child relationships.

“Julie offers many pieces of useful advice and ideas on how to tackle everyday situations that most parents experience with young toddlers.”

I am so happy to have been able to read Julie’s publication “Save Your Sanity: A Working Parents Guide to Transforming Your Defiant Child into a Delight.” As a mother of 4- and 2-year-old girls, I can safely say I have had many questions answered throughout her whole book. Her calm writing style allowed me to feel relaxed and confident about my next encounter with challenging behavior. I enjoyed how she offers examples on how to deal with the many different phases of toddler behavior, as well as recaps on a lot of the main topics in the book’s appendix. I can say that I am eager for Julie’s next publication and look forward to more guidance during my parenting journey through Julie’s expertise of emotional and behavioral support for children.

“It’s a great read that is filled with great insight and fresh, relevant ideas.”

I would highly recommend this book to any parent or caregiver of any young child, defiant or not. Julie's thoughts and ideas are ones that can resonate with anyone who is involved in raising a child. Her focus on connection and time together really inspired me to do more with my son and to really put thought and effort into the activities we do together. It was also a really great reminder to put the phone down during our time together - I didn't even realize I was doing it! I found the chapter on screen time equally as beneficial. I have always struggled trying to find a balance between keeping my son happy with his amount of screen time and what I thought was too much. I can't wait to put what I learned into practice. It's a great read that is filled with great insight and fresh, relevant ideas.

“Totally captivating and mind-expanding!”

I’m a 27-year-old female millennial who is thinking about having kids one day (if I can ever afford it, am I right?) and reading this book has not only affirmed my initial ideas of what type of parent I would be/would want to be, but it also helped me to figure out where things might have gone off track in my own childhood. I feel better prepared for the journey to parenthood ahead and confident that I now fully understand the circumstances and effects surrounding my own upbringing. Whether you work with kids, you’re new to parenting, just thinking about it or have no intention on having kids, this book is for you! It has something for everyone and will surprise you and challenge you to look at child rearing from different perspectives; a MUST read!

“An excellent book full of successful strategies to help parents with defiant children”

As someone with six years of experience as a teacher’s assistant, I can confirm the effectiveness of the techniques offered in this book for helping children regulate their emotions and greatly reduce their overall level of defiance. Through an emphasis on a parent's ability to show patience, responsibility and general role-modeling of appropriate behaviours for their child, the author reveals that seeing eye-to-eye with your defiant child (and ultimately establishing a close connection of mutual respect with them) is not the far-off or even impossible scenario it may presently feel like. An excellent read with practical solutions for any parents who may feel that they are at their wits' end!
